Fuck the south. Every beat is exactly the same and all the lyrics to every song are exactly the same. Definitely ruined rap.

Northern rappers aren't in the media nowadays because everyone wants to hear some awful southern rapper with some awful lil jon beat that you can dance to in the club becuase its the same as his other 40 "hits" rapping about drugs, bitches, guns and cars. And how rich they are. Fuck them all. Also, how dare you insult Jay-z or Nas. You should never be allowed to listen to a rap album ever again.....well...unless lil jon produced it.

You know what? I wasn't going to but now I want to. I'm gonna go point for point with you here goes.

Bunb sucks. Also apparently you've never heard Reasonable Doubt.

Nas- agreed Kelis sucks balls however in his prime he's was of the best rappers of all time

KRS one - it's not about how many albums were sold. If you really think Paul Wall is a better rapper than anyone on this list please, kill yourself now. He sells albums because of what I was saying earlier about "club hits" not becuase of talent.

Ja Rule blows

50 blows

Yes, B.I.G. is dead. Rest In Peace

Puff blows

LL cool J is a legend. But not relevant anymore

Wu-Tang.........ditto regardless of the fact that they're making a new album which I'm convinced will be awful.

Fat Joe blows

Jadakiss is the shit and one of the few still relevant northern rappers. You can't tell me when he comes on the radio somewhere you wont listen

Fab.......eh, he's got some OK stuff.

While we're at it lemme throw out some Up north rappers you forgot that are better than anyone in the south ever will be.
Common
Talib Kweli
Run DMC
Public Enemy
The Roots
Big L
Mos Def

.....I know I'm forgetting some but my point is this is where rap was built. When rap was good look where it came from, that top half of the country. They were original. And as far as Kanye goes yeah I know he was born in Atl but he raps like hes from chicago and thats all tha tmatters. BTW all those rappers you mentioned suck horribly.

Just for comparison purposes.....

Here's Get by by Talib Kweli

Talib]
Yeah.. my Lord.. yeah

[Verse 1: Talib]
We sell crack to our own out the back of our homes
We smell the musk of the dusk in the crack of the dawn
We go through episodes too like "Attack of the Clones"
Work 'til we break our back and you hear the crack of the bone
To get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
We commute to computers
Spirits stay mute while your egos spread rumors
We survivalists, turned to consumers
Just to get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
Ask me why some people got to live in a trailer, cuss like a sailor
I paint a picture with the pen like Norman Mailer
Mi abuela raised three daughters all by herself, with no help
I think about her struggle and I find the strength in myself
These words, melt in my mouth
They hot, like the jail cell in the South
Before my nigga Core bailed me out
To get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
We do or die like Bed-Stuy through the red sky
with the window of the red eye
Let the lead fly, some G. Rap shit, "Livin' to Let Die"

[Chorus: Background singers]
This morning, I woke up
Feeling brand new I jumped up
Feeling my highs, and my lows
In my soul, and my goals
Just to stop smokin, and stop drinkin
And I've been thinkin - I got my reasons
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by), just to get (by)

[Talib and background singers]
(ba ba ba, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da badahh
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by by by by by by)
(ba ba ba, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da badahh
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by by by by by by)

[Verse 2: Talib]
We keep it gangster say "fo shizzle", "fo sheezy" and "stayin crunk"
its easy to "pull a breezy", "smoke trees", and "we stay drunk"
Yo, I activism - attackin the system, the blacks and latins in prison
Numbers of prison they victim lackin in the vision
Shit and all they got is rappin to listen to
I let them know we missin you, the love is unconditional
Even when the condition is critical, when the livin is miserable
Your position is pivotal, I ain't bullshittin you
Now, why would I lie? Just to get by?
Just to get by, to get fly
The TV got us reachin for stars
Not the ones between Venus and Mars, the ones that be readin for parts
Some people get breast enhancements and penis enlargers
Saturday sinners Sunday morning at the feet of the Father
They need somethin to rely on, we get high on all types of drugs
When, all you really need is love
To get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
Our parents sing like John Lennon, "Imagine all the people", watch
we rock like Paul McCartney from now until the last Beatle drop

[Chorus: Background singers]
This morning, I woke up
Feeling brand new and I jumped up
Feeling my high's, and my low's
In my soul, and my goals
Just to stop smoking, and stop drinking
And I've been thinking - I've got my reasons
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by), just to get (by)

[Talib: repeat 2X - with background singers]
Yo yo yo yo, yo
Some people cry,and some people try
Just to get by, for a piece of the pie
You love to eat and get high
We decieve when we lie, and we keepin it fly

Yo yo yo yo, yo
When, the people decide, to keep a disguise
Can't see the eyes, see the evil inside
But there's people you find
Strong or feeble in mind, I stay readin the signs yo yo yo yo yo

edit: Get by is a better song. I had rush first.

And here's bum ass Paul Wall with "Tryin to get Paid"

I'm on the grind, trying to make paper stack up
And if I slip and fall, then I get back up
A two piece, any hater that wanna act up
And if boxing don't work, a glock got my back up pimping
Talking down, is a thing of the past
Instead of tripping off of me, you should be getting your cash
I got a lot of paparazzi, trying to see through my glass
Well peep game I'm bout to teach class, listen to me
I'm a hustler, with only one thing on my mind
And that's getting all that's mine, while I'm in my prime
Whether it's legal or a crime, the police still blind
Cause I'm quiet and hush-hush, like a mime
I'm gon shine, but not till the appropriate time
So I nickel and dime, every lick I find
If I fall in a bind, my inventory still fine
I never let a slump, influence the way I grind baby

[Hook]
All day and every night, I think about one thang
Stacking my change, and that ain't never gon change
I got plans for running game, until the money is drained
Putting rocks in my ring, and ride a drop on swangs
Steady hustling on the grind, out here doing my thang
I'm just trying to maintain, how many licks I could stang
But these boys who talking loud, they ain't got nothing to say
But I ain't worried, I'm just trying to get paid

[Paul Wall]
I'm on the grind, I hustle everyday all day
I'm trying to shine, with muscle and show off parque
I lost time in the struggle, so I grind always
Cause on my mind, I'm making up for lost pay
I'm using my past for inspiration, when I was broke
I had dreams and aspirations, influenced by hope
I get up get out and get it, while I can cause I might get jammed
Life don't always go, the way that you plan
Instead of ducking the undercovers, or snoring undercovers
I'm climbing out the underground, increasing my numbers
24/7 I grind, ain't no time for sleep
Cause if you snooze you lose, and if you sleep you won't eat pimping
I go and get it, being broke I ain't with it
A different hustle every minute, if I said it I did it
I can't let no critic, influence my mash for paper
I grind major I'ma shine later, holla playa

[Hook]

[Paul Wall]
I'm on the grind, I worked for everything that I got
I go and get it while it's hot, I'm on the block nonstop
Cause I remember, when I didn't have didly squat
And I'm not, trying to make a U-turn from the top pimping
It ain't no time, for relationships
Cause 99 percent of dips, will try to take your chips
Ain't no slipping in my pimping, or slacking on my macking
These boys lazy Cadillac'ing, while I'm greenback stacking
Cause, while they in they bed catching they Z's
I'm in the streets, trying to catch me some G's
I gotta go and get all that I'm worth, cause being broke hurt
And I ain't got time for shooting the breeze, check me out
I hustle like a fiend, cause I'm addicted to cash
I can't let my window, of oppritunity pass
It really ain't no telling, how long my money gon last
So I mash and get it fast, first class for real

[Hook - 2x]

Just reading that you can tell who the better lyricist is.....shit you can tell who the better rapper is and who has more talent.

Common thinks every rapper thats not rapping about social and political issues is a disgrace to rap this asshole even had beef with Ice Cube

Talib Kweli makes me wanna fall asleep

Run DMC always liked them but no relevance to rap music today

Public Enemy im not gonna repeat myself see run dmc

The Roots my biggest problem is ?uestlove this guy goes around saying "I want to be the first rap artist to actually make a good 10th record." guess he never heard of Ice Cube every record he has been a part of wether its solo, NWA or Westside Connection have all been good

Big L its a shame he never made it out of harlem

Mos Def i loved the lyrics for "the rape over"

jay z doesnt have a leg to stand on after that bullshit change clothes its so fucking gay it erased the rest of the black album all together
every Blueprint album he made were weak as fuck 03 bonnie and clyde made me wanna puke

to be real in hip hop you rap about what you know in the south we build bad ass cars and we party drugs and alcohol is just a given element nobody wants to hear a southern rapper talkin about feeding starving ethiopians or some bullshit like that we help our own here first

indeed, it is.

I used to be a huge rap fan, hell, I even (regrettably) purchased 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin. THen I realized that everyone was rapping about bullshit, even so-called greats like Jay-Z. It's just a stagnant brand that has basically been mined to shit by money hungry artists and execs. And the sad part is, that the genre as a whole is gonna continue on its downward trend because of people seeing dollar signs by mass producing bullshit. It's a shame bullshit like "crank that soulja boy" get's more radio airplay than somethin great by someone like Common.

I pretty much have given up on the genre. It's sad, cause I was a major fan, but I've discovered a lot of new music that I like more smile.gif

I like to diversify my musical portfolio as well. After all, variety IS the spice of life. But my first love has always been hip hop. So, even though I listen to A LOT more than just that genre now, I still listen to and try to find new stuff all the time.

Listen to some MF Doom AKA Viktor Vaughn. (specifically the album, Vaudeville Villian) It'll renew your interest. smile.gif
