Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, the Doors, Bob Dylan......................Madonna.........MADONNA...HAHAHAHA MADONNA.........AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH MADONNA....Madonna?
Since when has this no-talent bitch been rock and roll?
I visited the rock and roll hall of fame last year and had a great time...now she has tainted that for me, among several other things.
she should have been an abortion.

Not that I'm a fan, but you can't doubt her contribution to music. Hell, Led Zeppelin has been exposed as being nothing more than the best cover band of all time, and they're still considered classic.

oh i don't doubt her contribution to music...its been an extremely negative conbribution but an undeniable one.
but what gets me is that her music is so NOT rock and roll its not even funny. thats like saying "Joe Montana has made a contribution to sports...so lets put him in the hockey hall of fame". Like, I know that they have some artists who are not exactly "rock and roll" that have been inducted...but the difference is that they inspired some early pioneers of rock and there is some kind of recognizable connection to the industry. Not only is Madonna's music not rock and roll (not to mention putrid in every way, shape and form) but it has inspired people like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne etc. who are the antithesis of rock.
Even if I didn't despise Madonna, I would still say its ridiculous...you don't see Jim Morrison earning the highest of accolades from the sugar pop industry...so what the fuck?

I'll give you that, but traditionally, "rock and roll" has been used loosely for the inductees. Michael Jackson, Nat King Cole, Billy Holiday, Al Green, Etta James, The Four Tops, Hank Williams- none of them are "rock and roll," but obviously have their place.
I guess to each his own. Like I said, I'm disgusted that Led Zeppelin basically stole most of their shit (lyrics and melodies,) and claimed it as their own, yet they're still considered near the top of classic rock.

you're right...i think its just that Madonna is the final straw...that is ESPECIALLY disgraceful in my opinion. I mean, I listen to rock to escape people like Madonna so I can pretend they don't exist.
They need to clearly define the criteria for a "hall of fame" member. I know you hate Zeppelin (i personally love their music, or whoever created it) but you have to admit, at the very least they are a clear cut rock and roll band.
There should be an R&B, Hip Hop, Pop etc. Hall of Fame because typically visitors are there to celebrate people like Hendrix, Dylan, Neil Young etc.
That being said...it was an awesome experience going to the rock hall of fame...and despite my disappointment, i would probably go back should i find myself in cleveland again.

Good points- and it's not really that I hate Zeppelin. They are a cool band- I was just really disappointed when I heard the original versions of almost ALL of their classic songs.

I'm not sure I understand the issue here. Why does the fact that someone else wrote the song diminish the performance? Were they claiming to have written the sonds? Sorry but I'm really not familar with this issue but I'm having trouble understanding the problem.

For a long time, they claimed to have written the songs, in that, on the albums it gave no credit to the original artists. Since this was discovered, I think the new printings of the albums give credit to the original artists. The real issue for me is that this isn't just a "few" songs, or obscure songs. Literally, most of the famous "Led Zeppelin" songs are direct copies of little known (mostly blues) artists- both the music and lyrics. I looked for a site with clips of the original songs, but I couldn't find one.
Here's a site with some of the original songs/artists, but no clips. You really need to hear it to get the full effect though.

I didn't realize they had taken credit.
