So does cell phone bills, cable bills, car insurance, home insurance, gas prices, electric bills, milk, hookers, computers, televisions, rent, ramen noodles, and bread. Is there anything that anyone purchases on a regular basis that costs less than they want to pay? Anybody ever pay their cable bill and think, "damn, this is a great price!"?
I see yer sarcasm and raise you a point. Cell phone, cable, car insurance (another scam), hookers, milk, ramen, bread, computers, tv's, are not necessities to our american culture. Being healthy is.

I would argue that most people that don't want to pay for health insurance have to the ability to get it somehow through there work, or other options, but chose not to because of its cost. If they were to get rid of the "extras", like cable tv, cell phones, etc, they would be able to afford it. Necessity is in the eye of the beholder.

Spoken like someone that has never had to support themself. I have clients that are making 50 to 60k and are paying 10k a year for health insurance for their families.
The health care system in this country is broken. I don't know what the answer is but it's sure not what we are doing now.

Are you serious? I've lived on my own for the last 5 years and supported myself the entire time.

one big difference is of these which one is increasing dramatically? how many of these are offered by employers but are now being taken away or are making the employees pay more and more of it?
previous topic of gay marriage. I am so happy to see this. I've proposed doing this numerous times but NEVER thought id see someone else attempt it.

I'm not saying it's perfect, it needs alot of work. But universal healthcare is not the answer.

In the spirit of Alfonso Rodriguez's sentencing tomorrow, what are everyone feelings on the death penalty?
I used to be completely against it until this case. I hate the fact that because our system is not perfect, there is a chance someone who is innocent could be put to death. I don't really understand how it even happens though. How do people actually get put to death without complete and utter confirmation that they committed the crime?
Anyway, now I support the death penalty. It's easy for me to blow it off and say that it's not our place to kill a human being, but I know that if it were someone in my family that was a victim I would want to murder the criminal with my bare hands.

Absolutely agree. It's very inefficient, corners are cut, wait times are long & there's virtually no incentive for healthcare workers to stay here. The government is now entertaining the idea of importing doctors from the British Medical Association, as the UK has a surplus of physicians (who may not secure suitable jobs otherwise).
The average family doctor in Canada makes about 100K/year. Over three million Canadians are not able to access a (family) physician. About 3800 GP's plan to either retire, close their practices or cut back their hours of operation in the next few years.

I just got worked up about another topic after seeing Ralph Nader on The Daily Show, voting outside of the Dem or Rep parties.

Death penalty should be spread to other crimes including such thing as child molestors.

the death penalty is all out of whack. thats a huge problem. If gary ridgeway gets life in prison how can you give anyoen the death penalty? im all for the death penalty and i agree it should be extended to more crimes. But seriously the guys killed like 50 women and gets life in prison? i believe if my memory serves me correct he is the most prolific serial killer in the history f the US (again i could be wrong) yet he is still going for life. I know he took a plea deal but his plea should have been for a quick death instead of a slow one.

how about ethanol? I don't know why everyone thinks ethanol is so great. It costs more energy to make than it produces. not to mention the amount of ethanol use being suggested by congress would consume more corn than the entire US produces in 1 year. I think we should possibly look at the sugar ethanol instead.
