So I have decided to finaly buckle down and buy myself a laptop. I am going to be taking On-line courses next year (need to finish school and I travel for work) It will be used for school work, some web surfing, some poker playing and maybe some music production and remixing...
So I have been looking and a Toshiba with 15.1 inch monitor 120g hard drive, 1g ram and 1.73ghz core duo processer. DVD burner and yada yada yada
Here is isIf anyone out there knows of the best place to buy, or something I should really be aware of, please let me know

If you're going to buy the extended warranty, it's better to buy at Best Buy than Circuit City. Not much else to say, I prefer HP laptops, but Toshiba is a definetly second.

For Windows Vista you will want to upgrade to 2gb of Ram, it will run with 1gb, but it may appear sluggish.

Compare with an HP with similar features. They're great.
Toshiba's good too. Pretty much anything but a Dell.

If you have the oppritunity to get XP instead of Vista, do it. All vist will do is make your laptop pretty at the expense of it's performance. Not an even trade if you ask me.

I have 1 gig and it doesn't seem sluggish in the least bit.

15.4" Monitor

I frickin' rule.
Oh ya.
It's also got a builtin webcam and mic, so like, I have all the cool shit hooked up and all my USB ports still free... It's also got an S-Video out port, to connect it to a TV or projector..

Laptops have gotten so much cheaper in the last few years. The best bet is to get something that is mid-range. You don't want the latest and greatest, because stores charge a huge premium for that. Get technology that has been out for about 6 months, and there is your sweet-spot for laptop buying.

Lenovo thinkpads are solid; the have 25% off right now and easily outperform and are more rugged then the competitors. I got a T61, 4 gb mem, dual core 2.3, and 15.4 high res monitor.
Also check out ready boost for vista, it totally helps out performance.
