Cubs owner: Naming rights for Wrigley Field on the table

CHICAGO -- The chief executive officer of the Tribune Company said Wednesday he won't hesitate to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field -- even if baseball purists don't like the idea.

During an interview on CNBC, Sam Zell said despite Wrigley Field being known worldwide, he didn't get a discount because he wasn't going to use the naming rights that the field represents.

Zell said he plans to sell the Cubs and Wrigley separately and in his own time frame. He also disclosed that Major League Baseball has approved "four or six" potential ownership groups and that any one of them would be fine.

The sale of the team has been delayed by Zell's plan to sell the team and the stadium separately, and to have a state agency acquire and renovate Wrigley.

Let's talk Fantasy Baseball for a minute....

I gotta keep 7 players 3/4 batters and 3/4 pitchers.

My definites: Pujols, Ichiro, Peavy, Beckett
My other choices:
(1/2 batters) - Hunter, E.Brynes, O.Cabrera (SS are hard to come by)
(1/2 pitchers) Bonderman, Buehrle, R. Soriano

Who do you think I should Keep?

Posted: Feb 28 2008, 03:51 PM
Buehrle, Cabrera, & Hunter.

i think the homers and rbi's are switched, but other than that those are great numbers and yeah, should put him in the top 10.

Royals, Orioles or DRays. Which is the best worst team? I'll go with Tampa. I don't think the O's could beat half the leagues' AAA teams.

I hate our front office. angry.gif

i'll agree with you, but its still going to be hard for them to find wins in that division, they better play really well outside their division or they will be fighting the O's again for the bottom of the AL East cellar. i think the Royals could be a vastly improved ballclub, but, again, still be at the bottom of the cellar with the division they are in. their hitting will improve year i have no doubt about that, but, can the pitching staff duplicate the numbers it did last year with a strong bullpen, meche and bannister heading up the rotation and grienke still making improvements like he did at the end of last season.

and yes, sorry tec, the o's are fucking terrible! have they traded roberts yet?

They might as well trade Roberts now. He's past his "27 year's old" season and thus has peaked in his preformance. He prolly is at his highest value he'll ever be at. And plenty of teams could use a speedy 2B with some power who's great in the field. However, since our front office is so smart (see my comment about the O's front office above) they would prolly trade Roberts for 3 minor league prospects who later on are traded to the DRays for Cliff Floyd who plays 26 games for the Orioles before being put on the DL for the rest of the season cause of a hernia. rolleyes.gif

I like Seattle's chances out west this year. The pitching should keep us in most games, especially if Morrow can build on last year's success and if Mark Lowe stays healthy. A lead after 7 innings should be in the books as a "W" with those guys and Putz closing it out. The offense needs Sexson to rebound from last year. If he goes .260/35/120 we'll win the AL West.

its going to be a tough race between the angels and m's, beltre and sexson's bats need to wake the fuck up though. there is going to be a lot of wins out there in texas and oakland for these two to rack up on, whomever does this job best might win the west outright.
